no stem, no
smoke Or Black
colored pore surface, and a Soft, spongy
texture with a watery context

 

1. Pore surface reddish colored when fresh and able to be peeled off in a thin

1. Pore surface not reddish and not able to be peeled off

    2. Basidiocarp either 1) whitish with tints of blue, or 2) whitish to buff and bruising reddish-brown where handled

        3. Upper and lower surfaces whitish to buff and bruising reddish brown

        3. Upper and lower surfaces whitish with tints of blue, sometimes bruising intensely blue
            where handled .....................................................................................................Postia livens

    2. Basidiocarp white to cream to buff or straw colored, not bruising

        4. Occurring on hardwoods; pores 3-5 per mm............................................................... Tyromyces chioneus

        4. Occurring on conifers; pores 1-2 per mm.............................................................. Climacocystis borealis
