  Our Program Philosophy Thc Lab School Program is based on the belief that young children learn best through active play and exploration of their environment and positive collaborations with peers, in addition to the nurturing guidance and instruction of supportive adults. We provide a child-centered environment where a balance of structure and flexibility exists. The Lab School programming provides for the development of the whole child, therefore learning opportunities encourage social/emotional, physical, cognitive and language growth. Our Relationship to Messiah College Located in the lower level of Hostetter Chapel on the Messiah College campus, the Early Learning Center Lab School Program was established in 1970. The program exists to provide a model of high quality early childhood programming for children and families in the community, as well as to provide the College with a site for Early Childhood training and education through observational projects and classroom participation. Our Program Description The Lab School Program is a traditional half-day pre-school program, licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The program is also accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Half-day programming is provided for children ages 2 yrs. 9 mo. to 5 yrs. in two multi-age classrooms. Children are enrolled in either a two-day or four-day option, with classes offered Monday through Thursday, both morning and afternoon. The morning session meets from 8:45 - 11:30 AM and the afternoon session meets from 1:00 - 3:45 PM. The school calendar follows the Messiah College academic year. The first semester begins in early September and ends around December 10. The second semester begins in January and ends by May 10. Each of the Lab School classrooms are led by a Master level teacher and assisted by ECE student teachers and students participating in practicum and field experiences. This program is open to College faculty, staff, students, and to the local community. |
