Study Abroad
Living with a host family and studying along side 80,000 Spanish students allows Messiah students to become immersed in the language and culture of Spain. Students are introduced to Spanish culture through an initial orientation that includes intensive language instruction and travel to cities throughout the country such as Avila, Cordoba, Cuenca, Granada, Madrid, Segovia, Sevilla, and Toledo. The program includes a one- to five-week orientation / language study, university classes (plus special BCA Study Abroad classes), several weekend excursions, and a study tour.

Goals and Objectives
BCA Study Abroad attempts to integrate American students into an overseas university, allowing them to broaden their horizons, to experience different cultures, and to practice speaking another modern language.
Requirements
Students must have completed two full years of college and must have a 3.0 GPA or higher to qualify. Students must have completed five semesters of college-level Spanish; recommendations from language faculty are a large part of the application process.
Students are required to attend all Messiah-run pre-departure orientation sessions the semester before studying abroad as well as half-day reentry retreat upon returning to campus the following semester.
Credits
The 15 or 16 credits students earn each semester may meet some general education or major requirements. Courses taken will appear on Messiah transcripts with letter grades. Please refer to the grade conversion chart.
Students will meet their third language/cross-cultural requirement by participating in this program. Students will not earn 3 credits, rather the requirement will be waived.
Costs: 2013 - 2014 $20,530, plus $250 deposit
Fee covers tuition, housing, meals, *round-trip airfare for the group flight, educational excursions, pre-departure, and re-entry orientation. Note: additional fees students may encounter include (but are not limited to) local transportation, visas, passports, immunizations, and course fees.
For comparison, a typical semester in Grantham for 2013-2014 is $19,655.
Note: *Once flights are booked, students are responsible for the cost of the flight if they cannot participate for any reason, including visa issues. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the jumping off point in the United States.
BCA Study Abroad Summer Programs
Students may also participate in 3- to 6-credit options in the summer in any of the Messiah-approved locations. However, students will NOT receive the cross cultural waiver. Messiah will pass through costs for BCA Study Abroad summer programs; airfare is not included. Click here to learn more about these options.
