Dalian University of Foreign Languages - BCA Study Abroad

At the Chinese Studies Institute in the port city of Dalian, students can study Dalian University of Foreign Languages where students can take Mandarin Chinese language and study modern Chinese society.  Students live in dorms with international students and immerse themselves in Chinese culture and language.  Course selections allow students to explore their surrounding culture in greater depth; students can even choose to take Advanced Chinese Brush Calligraphy!  The program includes field trips to other significant sites like the Great Wall of China, Beijing, and the Forbidden City.  During the semester, students also travel to the countryside to visit with a local Chinese family!

Goals and Objectives
BCA Study Abroad attempts to integrate American students into an overseas university, allowing them to broaden their horizons, to experience different cultures, and to practice speaking another modern language.

Requirements
Students must have completed one full year of college and must have a 2.7 GPA or higher to qualify. Students are required to attend all Messiah-run pre-departure orientation sessions the semester before studying abroad as well as half-day reentry retreat upon returning to campus the following semester.

Credits
The 15 or 16 credits students earn each semester may meet some general education or major requirements. Courses taken will appear on Messiah transcripts with letter grades.

Students will meet their third language/cross-cultural requirement by participating in this program. Students will not earn 3 credits, rather the requirement will be waived.

Costs: 2013 - 2014 $20,530, plus $250 deposit

Fee covers tuition, housing, meals, *round-trip airfare for the group flight, educational excursions, pre-departure, and re-entry orientation.  Note: additional fees students may encounter include (but are not limited to) local transportation, visas, passports, immunizations, and course fees.

For comparison, a typical semester in Grantham for 2013-2014 is $19,655.

Note: *Once flights are booked, students are responsible for the cost of the flight if they cannot participate for any reason, including visa issues.  Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the jumping off point in the United States.

Costs: 2014-2015 – Messiah College is currently reviewing its parameters and pricing structure for study abroad programs. Costs for 2014-2015 will be available in November 2013 and will be posted on this website as soon as they become available.
