Goals and Objectives
BCA Study Abroad attempts to integrate American students into an overseas university, allowing them to broaden their horizons, to experience different cultures, and to practice speaking another modern language.
For programs in Spain and Germany students must have completed two full years of college, have a 3.0 GPA or higher, and have completed 202 or 206 level (*301 recommended for Spain) language courses; recommendations from language faculty are a large part of the application process. For program in China and England students must have sophomore status and a 2.7 GPA.
Students are required to attend all Messiah-run pre-departure orientation sessions the semester before studying abroad as well as half-day reentry retreat upon returning to campus the following semester.
Credits / Grades
The 15 or 16 credits students earn each semester may meet some general education or major requirements. Courses taken will appear on Messiah transcripts with letter grades. (Please refer to the grade conversion scale).
Students will meet their third language/cross-cultural requirement by participating in this program. Students will not earn 3 credits, rather the requirement will be waived.
Because of the high cost of this program, participation is capped at 9 students per academic year.
Messiah tuition, room, board, plus $1,700 off-campus study fee. Also a $250 deposit.
Fee covers tuition, housing, meals, educational excursions, pre-departure, and re-entry orientation. Note: additional fees students may encounter include (but are not limited to) transportation, visas, passports, immunizations, and course fees.
Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from this program.

“I joined an international Church while I was in Germany, and so I was able to speak with Christians around the world. They helped to challenge my theology with their own, made me defend my thinking.”
