A Guide to the General Education Curriculum
Common Reading Convocation - September 12, 2007 [Note: You will need Windows Media Player on your computer to listen to this streaming audio file.] Mission and Purpose of General Education MissionThe General Education program at Messiah College encourages the development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes of intellect, character, and faith that Christians use in lives of service, leadership and reconciliation. Purpose The General Education program works along with the Schools and Departments to ensure that the Messiah College Mission and College-Wide Educational Objectives are addressed in the curricula of the college: students learn academic skills common to all disciplines, achieve an introductory level understanding of a variety of disciplines, and develop an ability to apply knowledge gained from these disciplines. In the process, students are challenged and nurtured toward mature intellect, character, and Christian faith. Moreover, service, leadership, and reconciliation are addressed at increasingly complex levels as students progress through the program. Each section of the General Education Guidelines document can be viewed in PDF format on the Community of Educators section of the web site. |
