Summer Courses
In the Master of Arts in Art Education program there are several summer intensive courses. Each course requires you to be on Messiah College's campus in Grantham, Pa.,
for 8 consecutive days in the summer, plus one additional day to present portfolio/body of work.

6/19-6/21 and 6/24-6/28/2013, plus one additional day TBD.
ART 511: Graduate Studies in Computer Art (Studio Course)
Kathy Hettinga (Course Fees $30.00)
Course description: In depth knowledge and use of digital techniques to create a body of work in the areas of digital imaging, book arts and digital media.
General materials list:
- Access to Photoshop, and optionally InDesign
- Portable storage device to back up your digital projects.
- Basic hand tools including: X-acto knife with blades, bone folder, glue sticks, PolyVinylAcetate glue, metal rulers.
(All of the above are available in the MC bookstore and in art supply stores).
Cost of printing will be charged to your account. Check costs posted in printing room/graphics lab. Costs for printing are figured at cost of materials and are less expensive than service bureau prices.
- Any special or archival papers that you may wish to print on. Always check paper specification for printers before using different papers in the printers.
- Matt board for mounting/matting. And other special materials as projects may require.
- Several kinds of coated and non-coated inkjet papers.
- Some cover stock weight papers, and book board.

ART 5XX: Topics in Photography: Historical Process (Studio Course)
Andy Bale (Course Fees $50.00)
Course description: An exploration of non-silver photographic processes such as cyanotype, van dyke, platinum and palladium and zia-type. Students will use large format 4x5 cameras, as well as, digital files and inkjet printers to create large negatives. Students will complete a cohesive body of work based on technics and processes learned in the course.
General Materials List:
- A digital camera
- Portfolio box or folder
- Protective sleeves for inkjet negatives

Specialty Materials List:
This course requires the use of several very specialized chemicals, papers and hard to find materials. Therefore each student will be required to purchase a kit that the instructor will compile of these specialty materials and will be available for purchase from the college. This cost is in addition to the course fee of $50.00. The kits will include:
- 4x5 film
- Inkjet material for enlarged negatives
- Uncoated archival paper
- Specialty chemicals based on particular processes.
Housing
On campus housing is available for graduate students during the one-week courses. Pricing can be found on the application for housing.

Parking
Graduate students may obtain a commuter student parking permit free of charge. In order to obtain the permit, students need to register their vehicles at the Department of Safety Office located in the Greenbriar Building (#24 on the campus parking map), open between 8:00AM-3:00PM. Students should be sure to inform the Department of Safety staff that they are graduate students. Once the paperwork is complete, they will be issued a commuter parking permit and be able to park in the Starry Field Parking Lot, designated in yellow at the bottom right corner of the campus parking map. After 5:00PM, students with commuter permits may park in the lot around Murray Library (#26 on the campus parking map), but must remove their vehicles from this area by the time the library closes in the evening. Commuter parking permits are valid from July 1 - June 30.
Graduate students attending intensive summer courses are permitted to park on campus without obtaining a parking sticker/hang tag. Students should not park in designated employee parking areas or in areas specifically marked for service vehicles. Students may park behind Boyer Hall, in the spaces running parallel to the railroad tracks, or in the Starry Field Parking Lot. These areas are designated in yellow on the summer campus parking map. Graduate students attending the one-week intensive courses in January must obtain a parking permit as described above.
Students who want to obtain a parking pass should visit the Department of Safety Office located in the Greenbriar Building (#34 on the campus parking map). Hours are from 8am-3pm.

Meals
Messiah’s campus offers a variety of dining options ranging from a full dining room to more informal snack shop and café venues. Students may use cash, credit, or falcon dollars to buy meals at these locations.
