The capstone of the College Honors Program curriculum is the senior honors project.  With three options to choose from, students are able to individually design a project that will most serve them personally and professionally.

The first fulfillment option is the senior honors seminar, offered each semester. This interdisciplinary course is designed around a thematic focus, defined by the professor, and involves intensive reading, discussion, and a written research paper.

A second option, more concentrated on the participant’s course of study, is the department honors or department project option.  Because many Messiah College departments and majors encourage or require senior students to prepare a project, the Honors Program recognizes these accomplishments as capstone, as well.  Thirdly, students may choose to pursue a variety of alternative projects, including an interdisciplinary thesis, creative arts project, or service learning experience.

“I’m studying college students’ opinions of older adults based on a service-learning course taught at Messiah. I chose this topic because my interest lies in gerontology and intergenerational programming, and I was already working with a professor on this topic.”
