Todd Holtzman

Todd HoltzmanTodd Holtzman, a double major in Accounting and Politics, was impressed with the warm reception he received when he came to visit Messiah’s campus.  Now in his senior year, Todd continues to appreciate many meaningful relationships he’s formed with his professors and his peers.  He has been very impressed with the quality of the academic programs, the diversity of classes he’s been able to take through the College Honors Program, and the way that his teachers integrate faith into their courses.  Todd says, “Messiah doesn’t make it easy.  It challenges you [to consider] why you believe what you believe, and how ethics, morality, and faith are integrated.”

Todd Holtzman and Interns with Congressman PlattsWhat Todd has enjoyed most during his time at Messiah has been the ability to incorporate his studies with real life experiences.  Todd spent a semester studying abroad in the Middle East, where he witnessed the national political process first-hand in Egypt, Turkey, Jordan, Israel, and Syria.  He has participated in U.S. politics as well, interning last summer with Congressman Todd Platts in Washington, D.C.

Todd Holtzman also has been able to use his accounting knowledge extensively, performing budgeting and accounting functions for Allison Hill Community Ministry, for which he serves as a member of the Board of Directors.   Todd also serves as the Director of Outreach Teams at Messiah and oversees the teams’ budgeting.  In this role, he leads 11 student coordinators, who together send out an average of 500 students per week to work with 35 different community partners.

After graduation, Todd would like to return to Washington, D.C. as a legislative assistant.

Jennifer Michener

Jennifer Michener

It wasn’t until half-way through her last year of high school that Jennifer Michener, a junior biology major, considered attending Messiah College.  An outstanding high school soccer player, Jennifer visited various state college and university soccer programs, and was uncomfortable with the student life culture on those campuses.  Upon visiting Messiah’s campus, she was impressed, not only with the stellar soccer program, but also with the breadth of opportunities available here.

In addition to her role on Messiah’s championship women’s soccer team, Jennifer has a heart for the homeless. She has been very active in the ministries of Messiah’s Agape Center, the Engle Center, and Bethesda Mobile Missions.  What Jennifer has enjoyed most about Messiah are the many opportunities she has had through these volunteer experiences and the soccer program, as well as appreciated the caliber of faculty Messiah attracts.

Jennifer plans to attend medical school for a joint MD/Ph.D. degree in clinical research, with the goal of working for a public health organization.  Through Messiah’s Internship Department, she has had the opportunity to intern in the Temple University Medical School Pharmacology Department.  She specifically recognizes Dr. Sach’s Organic Chemistry class and her other “great professors” for how well prepared she feels as she begins studying for her MCATs.  Jennifer says, “The faculty here are different – they care about you and are willing to help you.”

Spiritually, Jennifer has seen a positive difference in the lives of those who spend time with God.  She has come to realize through her time at Messiah that “you’re not the starring role in your life.  You’re just a role player in God’s plan.”
