Scheduling a Session
When you come to Hoffman, you’ll see a table to your left with the Writing
Center’s sign-up book. We’re open Monday through Thursday. Flip through the
book to find the date you’d like for your session. Please schedule your
session for several days prior to the assignment’s due date to allow yourself
time for revision. The book’s pages are divided into half-hour blocks; find
an open time slot when you’re available and print your name and extension
(full number if off-campus). Please sign up for a half-hour per four pages
(e.g. a 5 page-paper needs a full hour). If you require an hour or longer,
please check the staff pages in the front of the binder to make sure there is
a tutor working for the entire time. Draw an arrow from your name through the
necessary number of time slots.
Please be sure to come on time to your session. If you are more than five
minutes late for a half-hour session or ten minutes late for a longer
session, the tutor will not have enough time to review your paper. Walk-ins
will also have first priority if you are more than 5 minutes late.
- If you are unable to come to your scheduled session,
please be courteous and draw a line through your name with pen.
- We recommend you sign-up a week in advance of your
desired session time, especially during busy parts of the semester (e.g.
midterms).
- We are usually closed the day before breaks.
- Please bring a clean copy of your most recent draft
and the assignment guidelines.
- If English is not your first language, we strongly
encourage you to sign up for twice as much time as the paper would
otherwise require (minimum one full-hour session).
- Remember, please
be on time for your session!
