Dr. David Dzaka (English Department)
Elizabeth Coon is a junior History and English double major, with a Theatre minor. She studied in Philly last fall (2008) and plans on traveling to Oxford in January to bury herself in the library and occasionally glimpse some historical sites. She loves when she gets to read history papers, but will deign to read normal papers as well.
Karissa Graybill is a junior English major with teaching certification. While she does a lot of writing and reading, sleeping ranks up pretty high on her list of favorites. She dislikes television but is an avid outdoors(wo)man, annually taking up deer hunting in the fall. The Writing Center makes her pearly whites show, and students eager to better their writing skills—no matter how good or bad of a writer—bring joy to her heart!
Callie Grondin is a senior HDFS major with a minor in counseling. She enjoys naps, Veronica Mars, spending time outdoors, and being a vegetarian. Her guilty pleasures are listening to Miley Cyrus and watching reality TV. She loves working at the Writing Center because it is a lot of fun to meet people from all other disciplines, learn, and read about all sorts of fascinating things! Also, she likes puzzles… stop by!
Kevin Hodes is a sophomore English Major with a writing concentration. Oftentimes you’ll find him working on his novel series “Dusk Sets” and “Dawn Breaks.” When he’s not off writing on his own, he enjoys sitting down with a good book- C. S. Lewis especially- or playing video games with his friends. Even though this is his first year working at the Writing Center, he’s been unofficially helping friends and acquaintances with their writing for years.
Lydia Johnson is a junior Studio Art major, with a mixed media concentration and a minor in business administration. Last semester she studied abroad in Australia where she saw the Great Barrier Reef, experienced the harshness of the outback, and spent heaps of time in downtown Sydney. She enjoys reading and writing art history papers and personal narratives and is most familiar with MLA documentation.
Alyssa Lord is a senior English major, with literature and writing concentrations. She is the oldest of five kids, loves salsa dancing, Jane Austen, mint chocolate chip ice cream, and awkward moments (which is good, because she gets those a lot). You might recognize her by her obnoxiously loud laugh. Alyssa's favorite part about working at the Writing Center is seeing a student "take-off" and harness their ideas for their papers. This year, Alyssa has been working as the Lead Tutor, so you won't see her around as much.
Xu Ren is a sophomore majoring in Politics with a concentration in International Relations as well as minoring in Music with piano. He was born in a rural village in China and traveled to the United States in 1998. He speaks Henan dialect with his family, Mandarin with other Chinese people, and English with his friends. In addition to spending most of his time reading, writing, and practice, he likes to spend time listening to music, playing the violin, and composing music on the computer.
John Ripollone is a junior Biochemistry/Molecular Biology major with a concentration in Biology pre-Medical studies, and a General Music minor with a concentration in Jazz Studies. John hopes to also attain a Statistics minor by the end of his career at Messiah College. Aside from being available to assist students with papers from humanities courses, John is also available to assist students in science courses that require research papers in APA format. If you’re into Jazz, Classical music or Christian Church history, then John is also available to converse with you at your convenience!
Karl Schlobohm is a senior English major with a writing concentration. He has a passion for playing guitar, and also loves to cook for people. He spends as much time outdoors as he can, whether tossing a baseball or hiking up a mountain. As a writer, he draws inspiration from his journeys, his relationships, and his faith. After helping a number of friends with their writing, he decided he could help as a member of the Writing Center staff.
Gillian Smith
Emily Williams is a senior English major with a Literature concentration, although she often ventures into Writing concentration classes. She loves cooking, reading, singing, dancing, and adventuring outdoors, although her schedule sometimes deprives her of these activities (well, except reading). She studied at the University of Oxford in the fall of 2008, and is now even more of an anglophile than before. She has worked at the Writing Center for 3 years, and is pleased to have a job she looks forward to doing each day.
Kinley Zook is a Junior English with Teaching Certification major with a TESOL minor. She is an avid fan of seeking God, drinking tea, journaling, making music, recycling, admiring art, and traipsing about in woods. She is most familiar with MLA documentation.
