Amy Sherman ’87
major: political science
current location: Charlottesville, Va.
During her time at Messiah College, Amy
Sherman ’87 adopted a “life view” that
emphasized the integration of faith into
every aspect of life. After she earned her
degree in political science and her doctorate
in foreign affairs and economic development
from the University of Virgina, Sherman
committed to using her career to implement
justice and mercy in the world.
Sherman’s passionate way of living has led
her through an array of influential positions
and opportunities such as serving as an
advisor to the White House Office of Faith-Based Community Initiatives, founding an
urban outreach ministry and authoring
multiple books that explore the role of faith
in combating poverty. As the director of the
Center on Faith in Communities for the
Sagamore Institute for Policy Research, her
current role is to promote partnerships
between public sector groups and faith-based
organizations, hoping that they may
collaboratively combat poverty and injustice.
