Amy Sherman

Amy Sherman ’87

major: political science
current location: Charlottesville, Va.

During her time at Messiah College, Amy Sherman ’87 adopted a “life view” that emphasized the integration of faith into every aspect of life. After she earned her degree in political science and her doctorate in foreign affairs and economic development from the University of Virgina, Sherman committed to using her career to implement justice and mercy in the world.

Sherman’s passionate way of living has led her through an array of influential positions and opportunities such as serving as an advisor to the White House Office of Faith-Based Community Initiatives, founding an urban outreach ministry and authoring multiple books that explore the role of faith in combating poverty. As the director of the
Center on Faith in Communities for the Sagamore Institute for Policy Research, her current role is to promote partnerships between public sector groups and faith-based organizations, hoping that they may
collaboratively combat poverty and injustice.
