Archives of Messiah College
Messiah College was founded by the Brethren in Christ Church in 1909 as the Messiah Bible School and Missionary Training Home. From its beginning, and through its renaming in 1951 as Messiah College, its regional accreditation in 1963, and its merger with Upland (formerly Beulah) College in 1965, Messiah was owned and formally controlled by the Brethren in Christ Church. While the denomination is no longer the College's legal owner, the College maintains a covenant relationship with its founding denomination. In keeping with its heritage and covenant commitments, the College's mission is to educate students in a holistic fashion, "toward maturity of intellect, character, and Christian faith for lives of service, leadership, and reconciliation in church and society." - excerpted from the web site of The Sider Institute for Anabaptist, Pietist, and Wesleyan Studies Click here to read more about the history of the College. Listing of Record Groups The Archives of Messiah College contains the official records of the college's governing boards, administrative and educational departments, and student organizations. The records include minutes, publications, and other related materials from the college's founding in 1909 to the present. Some records, because of their sensitive nature, may be restricted from public use.
