![]() Annville, PA — Messiah athletics has once again set the standard for academic excellence within the Middle Atlantic Conferences, touting 75 selections to the MAC Spring Academic Team, the conference offices announced Thursday. The Falcons’ 75 honorees were more than any other league institution, keeping a long-standing tradition in tact: Messiah has boasted the most athletes to the MAC academic honor roll in nearly every fall, winter and spring since the award’s conception. In order to be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must be of at least sophomore standing and carry a 3.2 GPA or higher. Messiah again successfully combined academic and athletic prowess, winning four conference championships in the spring — with 31 of the institution’s 75 honor roll recipients earning all-league status. Leading that charge was junior Katie Craven and sophomore Matt Burkhart, as Craven was named the MAC Female Track Athlete of the Year and Burkhart the Player of the Year for the second season running in men’s golf. Rising senior Tyler Newhook finished as an All-American at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, making his fourth appearance on a MAC Academic Team roster this spring. Thirteen of Messiah’s 17 women’s track honorees picked up all-conference accolades at the championship meet, while five of the women’s lacrosse team’s nine selections were all-league. Half of the Falcons’ eight softball honor roll members were voted to all-conference status. Messiah’s baseball, women’s lacrosse, softball and women’s track and field programs all took home conference titles this spring. A total of 606 honorees were named on the spring honor roll. Elizabethtown College had the second-most selections with 66, while Misericordia University wasn’t far behind with 62. Messiah’s selections are listed below.
