The Messiah College boys' basketball camp will again feature two sessions this summer, with camps running June 22-26 and July 27-31.
Grantham, PA — Messiah College athletics facilities will again be transformed into classrooms of the largest kinds in the coming weeks, as the Falcons’ intercollegiate programs prepare for another incredible turnout in its summer sport camps. Last year, over 2,500 boys and girls participated in various Falcons’ sport camps, while Messiah assistant athletics director Cory Furman said the numbers continue to grow. “This is a time of year our coaches truly love,” Furman said. “It’s great to see so many young people not only with a desire to improve in their respective sport, but a willingness to put in the time to help get that done. With the types of leaders we have here, there is no question these youngsters will take away some valuable lessons from whatever camp they are attending.” Camps began this week, as the Falcons’ women’s basketball and field hockey programs each hosted initial sessions of their overnight camps. The first of two men’s basketball and women’s soccer camps will take place next week, with Messiah’s camp calendar running strong through early August. Three of Messiah’s sports programs offering camps competed in NCAA Final Four competitions in the ’07-’08 academic year, while both the women’s soccer and women’s basketball teams advanced to the NCAA Championship. Messiah’s men’s soccer team appeared in its seventh Final Four in the last nine years, coming up just short in its quest for national title number six. “You’ll find some of the most successful, accomplished coaches in the country here at Messiah,” Furman said. “Those coaches then attract some of the best camp staffs you’ll find. I think that’s a big part of why our camps are so well-attended, and continue to be.” Roster spots are still available in a number of Falcons’ sport camps. Parents interested in enrolling their child can access detailed camp brochures by visiting the sport-specific site (navigation is to the left), or by simply clicking on the camps button located at the top of all GoMessiah.com pages. Immediate, last-second camp requests are best suited for camp directors. Phone and email contacts can be found at GoMessiah.com’s directory page. The following is a synopsis of all sports camps offered at Messiah this summer. Many sports offer a variety of camps based on age and ability, while others offer both day and overnight camps. Those details are available within the camp-specific brochures, available as pdf files via Messiah’s camp page. Messiah College Chronological Summer Camp Schedule — 2008
