Senior Craig Mease

Annville, PA — Messiah College senior Craig Mease was named the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week Monday, an award coming after the Falcons posted a 5-0 mark over the past week in central Florida.

Mease, a second baseman from Quakertown, Pa., helped Messiah finish off an eight-game winning streak during the team’s southern stretch over spring break, going 10 for 25 (.400) with six runs scored, 13 RBI's, three doubles, one triple and one home run in his lead-off position. On the field, Craig did not record an error in his 17 attempts.

Mease was also hit by a pitch and drew three walks in the week, a significant stat in that he tied — and then broke — the all-time walks record at Messiah. Mease now has 78 career bases on balls, a record formerly held by Michael Garber.

“Craig had a great week for us and has improved his overall game in many ways recently,” Engle said. “He’s been a leader for us, and is very deserving of this award.”

Albright College’s Casey Lawrence won MAC Commonwealth Pitcher of the Week honors opposite Mease’s award.

Messiah will travel to Arcadia University next, meeting the Knights Wednesday in a single, nine-inning game slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
