The Messiah Falcons, the Commonwealth Championship in 2011 for the fifth straight season, were honored with four All-Region players on Wednesday.

Grantham, PA – The Falcons landed a pair on each the First and Second Team All-Region teams this week, with the honorees announced by Longstreth/NFHCA.

Senior Kourtney Ehly and junior Juliana Hershey were named to the 2011 First Team, with sophomore Gina Kellett and junior Kelly Martin named to the Second Team.

Each of the teams included 16 players from the South Atlantic Region, one of six regions identified by Longstreth and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).

A forward from Boiling Springs, Pa., Ehly was named First Team All-Region for the third straight year. Ehly scored 10 goals and collected 11 assists for the Falcons in 2011, helping Messiah to their fifth straight Commonwealth Conference Championship and berth into the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championships. Ehly’s 31 total points ranked second on the team to Juliana Hershey.

Hershey, a forward from Smoketown, Pa., led the Falcons in both goals and total points with 23 and 54, respectively. Her First Team honor is the first All-Region recognition of her career.

Martin, a midfielder, and Kellett, a defender, are also making their first appearances on the All-Region teams. Martin, a native of Lititz, Pa., was an invaluable facilitator of a Messiah team that outscored their opponents 66-19 in 2011. Kellett, from Winfield, Pa., played a huge role for a Messiah defense that carried a goals against average of 1.06 and shutouts per game average of 0.44. These figures ranked 13th and 10th in the nation, respectively.
