Bryan Engle, a 2003 graduate of Messiah, enters his second year as an assistant coach with the Men's Basketball team. In his first year as an assistant under Rick Van Pelt, the men's basketball team had a historic season in garnering its first Commonwealth Conference Championship and appearance in the NCAA Division 3 National Basketball Tournament. The Falcons finished 19-10 and made the second round of the NCAA Tournament, finishing one game shy of the Sweet Sixteen.

A native of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Engle was a four-sport athlete at Donegal High School competing in football, soccer, basketball and baseball. After initially attending Kutztown University to play football, Engle decided to transfer to Messiah where he was a stand-out pitcher in baseball. A four-year starter, he currently stands in the top three in many career pitching categories. As a senior, Engle co-captained the Falcons to their first Commonwealth Conference baseball championship and NCAA Division III National Tournament appearance. In that season, Engle was named the Commonwealth Conference Pitcher of the Year in addition to being named a 3rd team Mid-Atlantic Region All-American.

After his career at Messiah, Engle went to Lexington, Kentucky where he was a graduate assistant in Athletics Administration while working on his Master’s Degree. While there, Engle had the opportunity to work with many of the finest programs in the country as the Nike Logistics Coordinator. Besides administrative duties, Engle had the opportunity to work hands-on with many of the athletic teams in a close environment.

“Seeing a top caliber program from the inside was a special treat,” stated Engle. “I grew up a Kentucky fan, so having the opportunity to study there and work with many outstanding administrators, coaches and student-athletes was a wonderful opportunity to learn from the best.”

"With Bryan's experience the last two years at the University of Kentucky, he will help us to continue to ‘Think Big’.  I know Bryan will help us to continue to raise the bar in our program," stated Van Pelt.

Engle’s duties as Messiah will include recruiting, management and administrative duties in addition to individual on-court player development sessions with basketball. In addition, Engle will serve as the Aquatics Director at Messiah’s Frederickson Natatorium where he will direct and oversee all operations of the facility.

Engle resides in nearby Mechanicsburg.
