Softball Stadium Fence To Be Completed For 2009 Season, Playoffs
Grantham, PA — Messiah College softball fans will have a dramatic change of scenery the next time they visit the Falcons’ home field, as a permanent fence is being installed prior to Messiah’s first home contest of 2009. A project originally started by head coach Amy Weaver in the fall of 2007, the construction will feature fully enclosed permanent fencing around the field, along with a warning track and outfield windscreen. Weaver said the addition of this fence will allow Messiah to be eligible to host NCAA playoff games, the Christian High School State Championship, and other for-profit tournaments, clinics, and summer camps. Messiah will also serve as host to this season’s MAC Commonwealth Playoffs, taking place the weekend of May 1-3. “I am very, very excited about this project coming to fruition,” Weaver said. “There are no words to describe it. I was unsure if we’d get this completed in time for this season, but we’ve received some generous donations from fans that have made this possible. I can’t thank the donors enough. Without their support, we would not be able to do this.” Ground has already been broken at Messiah’s field and, at the time of this release, polls had recently been driven into the ground — the initial structures of the fence itself. Fans can keep tabs on the project by virtue of a photo gallery, as images will be updated as construction continues. “I think we’re all excited about this, not just because of what a fence will allow us to do in terms of hosting events, but also because of what it will do for our players within our program,” Weaver said. “Finally, the team will feel like it has a true home. There’s a sense of pride that’s going up along with this fence. We really couldn’t be happier.”
