This weeks player in the spotlight is #17 Abby Bergakker.   Abby is a senior from Grand Rapids, MI.  Abby attended North Pointe Christian High School where she played catcher and second base.  Last season for the falcons, Abby batted .365, with 9 doubles, 1 triple and 4 homeruns and 15 RBI's.   She played in 44 games for the falcons at catcher with a .992 fielding percentage. Abby was named to the MAC Commonwealth All - Conference team and was also an All-tournament team player in the 2009 National Championships.

Bergakker is a good student in the classroom as well.  She is majoring in Sport Management.   She plans to work in Sport Management either back at home in Grand Rapids or in the Philadelphia area after graduation.

Abby's family lives in Grand Rapids, MI.   They do manage to fly in from time to time and see lots of games.   We are glad to have seen them at lots of games  and hope to see them at many more.  She has 1 older sister and 1 older brother and enjoys hanging out with her family when she is at home.

What you don't know about Abby is.... that she loves Pizza as her favorite food.   She loves so many movies that she cannot pick one.   Her favorite musical artist is the Dave Matthews Band.  Her favorite TV show is How I met your mother. Her favorite place to vacation is the Caribbean.  She loves to travel, and experience new things,  and spend time with friends and family in Michigan.  If you are a die hard fan - you would know that Abby played second base her freshman and sophomore year at Messiah and switched to catcher last season - which is amazing b/c of her all - conference honors and all tournament honors in the National Championship!  Great job Abby.

Her most embarrasing moment was her freshman year when she threw the ball to the field umpire thinking he was her teammate!!!!    Her favorite quote is - "those who stay will be champions." - Bo Shembehler
