Kipe and Simmons To Join Bates In National Championships
Ada, OH — The Messiah College track and field program learned Monday that three Falcons athletes will compete at this weekend’s 2008 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships, as senior Nick Kipe and sophomore Ted Simmons will join sophomore Kristen Bates at the event. Kipe (via a 47 feet, 6 and ¼ inch best in the triple jump) and Simmons (by virtue of a 6 feet, 8 inch clearance in the high jump) learned those marks were good enough for qualification by provisional standards Monday, while Bates (an :08.26 clip in the 55-meter hurdles and a 36 feet, 11 inch leap in the triple jump) earned automatic qualifying honors earlier in the year for both events. The trio will now compete at Ohio Northern University’s Sports Center Friday and Saturday among the best Division III athletes in the nation. “All three of these student-athletes have had incredible seasons for us, and we are excited to be well-represented at the national championships,” said Dale Fogelsanger, Messiah head coach. “It is an honor just to qualify for this event, and we’ll do our best to make the most of the opportunity.” Fans unable to attend the event will be able to follow all of the action live via webcast, as the two-day event will be covered on www.ncaa.com.
