Falcons Athletes To Compete At The Penn Relays This Week

Philadelphia, PA — The Messiah track and field program will once again compete in the world’s largest annual track meet, sending 12 athletes to take part in the 115th running of the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania.

Despite suffering a pulled hamstring, senior Jason Brown will give his best shot in the decathlon, beginning Tuesday afternoon and going through Wednesday. Things then get heated Thursday evening, as the Falcons’ women’s 4 X 4 relay team of sophomore Grace Kaste, freshman Lauren Harte, freshman Brooke Airey and sophomore Megan Sisson will run at 6:45 p.m. At 10 p.m. Thursday, senior Frank Eanes will compete in the 5,000-meter run.

Junior Kristen Bates will then take her NCAA Division III season-best time in the 100-meter hurdles to the task Friday, competing in the event at 3:40 p.m. That will follow her participation in the triple jump Friday morning, scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.

Messiah’s men’s 4 X 4 relay team will then take the Franklin Field track at 5:30 p.m. Friday, as sophomore Jesse Weidemann, junior Eddy Palmer, junior Peter Shenk and senior Patrick Roach compete.

Roach, who holds the season’s fastest time at the NCAA Division III level in the open 800 — 1:49.26 — will get another opportunity to run in a relay Saturday afternoon, as Palmer, Weidemann and junior Tyler Newhook join him in the 4 X 8 relay.

All events will take place in the historic University of Pennsylvania Franklin Field. Fans can follow all the action at ThePennRelays.com, the official site of the 115th running of the Penn Relay Carnival.
