Grantham, PA — Messiah freshman attack Rachel Dirksen was named the womenslacrosse.com NCAA Division III Rookie of the Week Tuesday, the second such award from the enitity this season.

Dirksen helped Messiah to a 3-0 week, putting up 14 points along with 13 draw controls and seven ground balls. She had four goals in a key 14-12 win over Eastern University, as Messiah set up a Wednesday meeting against Elizabethtown College to determine the regular-season MAC champion.

Messiah’s leading goal scorer on the season, Dirksen joined Defensive Player of the Week Lidia Sanza of Franklin & Marshall College and Offensive Player of the Week Chase Delano of Middlebury College in the womenslacrosse.com NCAA Division III award winners for the week. It was her second Rookie of the Week award this year, as Dirksen was also awarded the honor the week of April 1.

Womenslacrosse.com “searches national game stories to come up with a Rookie-of-the-Week, an Offensive and Defensive Player-of-the-Week and members of the Honor Roll.” Dirksen is Messiah’s first player to be recognized this season on the national level by any organization. Messiah will return to the field Wednesday, when they travel to neighboring rival Elizabethtown College in a game that will determine the league's top seed outright. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at E’Town's Wolf Field.
