After Misericordia took the first game over the Falcons in the first match of the evening, Messiah’s usual potent offense exploded, pummeling the Cougars in the next three sets, and outscoring the opponent 75-48. Messiah junior Lauren Rees, coming off of a striking performance against LVC this past week, led the Falcon attack with 19 kills on a .318 kill percentage. Fellow junior Lindsey King contributed 12 kills on a .440 kill percentage while senior Emily Hall added 10 kills of her own. Falcon sophomore setter Jess Geib also made her presence known during the match, handing out a whopping career high of 51 assists in the win.
Matched-up against a solid DeSales squad, the Messiah Falcons didn’t show to have the success on the court that they had previously on the night verses Misericordia or previously this season, when the Falcons swept DeSales 3-0 in early September. Nonetheless, the Falcons dropped three straight sets in the loss, moving Messiah’s record downward, but to a respectable status at 12-5 on the season. Messiah’s Rees had nine kills and 12 digs, King added six kills of her own and Geib dished out 19 assists in the match. With the win against the Falcons, DeSales moved to 19-2 on their season.
Messiah will look to bounce back this Tuesday, October 4th, when the Falcons travel to take on cross-town, and MAC rival Elizabethtown in what is sure to be a heated and fervent matchup. The match will be played at Elizabethtown and will begin at 7pm.
