Wilkes-Barre, PA — In the Falcons' last competition in 2011, thirteen wrestlers traveled to Wilkes-Barre, Pa., to take part in the annual Wilkes Open. Seniors Tim Stewart (184) and Chris Hardenberg (157) each made it to the finals in their respective weight classes before settling for second place.

Sophomore Charles Jones (197) lost his first match before rallying to take third place.

"I feel like we wrestled very well for our first event back from the Christmas break," said Messiah head coach Bryan Brunk.

"A number of our guys earned valuable experience against largely D-I and D-II competition," added Brunk, reflecting on the unscored event at Wilkes. "I thought our guys wrestled pretty well."

Aside from Stewart, Hardenberg, and Jones, seniors Matt Cross (174) and Danny Lethbridge (125) finished in the top six of their classes.

The Falcons will now look forward to the North-South Duals in Collegeville, Pa., on January 7, 2012.
