Announcing:
The Boyer Center recognizes elementary schools for teacher leadership in national competition.

GRANTHAM, PA — The Boyer Center at Messiah College, located in Grantham, Pa., honors four elementary schools from across the nation for their exemplary teacher leadership and collaboration programs as part of the Boyer Best Practices 2005 Awards program. 

The award schools are: Tijeras Creek Elementary School in Rancho Santa Margarita, California,  West Lawn Elementary School in Falls Church, Virginia, Hills Elementary School in Hills, Iowa, and Walker Elementary School in Canton, Ohio.

The Differntiated Instruction in Creating a Climate for Learning project is the sixth year of the Boyer Best Practices program that seeks to recognize exemplary practices that reflect Ernest L. Boyer, Sr.’s vision for excellence in education. Made possible by a grant from Maynard and Carolyn Sauder, the purpose of the project is to encourage outstanding programs in schools across the country that have a record of success and advance excellence in education.

The interest of The Boyer Center in teacher leadership and collaboration is informed by the work of the late Ernest L. Boyer, Sr. in his book “The Basic School: A Community for Learning” (Jossey-Bass, Inc., 1995). The Boyer Center solicited entries from across the country and 40 elementary schools submitted applications, which were reviewed by a committee of professors of education at Messiah College and a national advisory committee. Site visits were conducted by members of the national advisory committee.

The Boyer Best Practices program is sponsored by The Boyer Center in collaboration with the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Basic School Network, the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the magazine Teaching K–8.

Boyer Best Practices Award 2006 Application
