Visitation Sites

Member schools designated as visitation sites set a standard for careful development of all four Basic School Priorities for Renewal and consistently refine their efforts. Teachers are school leaders and the Principal is the Lead Teacher, a resource for best practices and ideas. Some of the characteristics that are clearly evident at a demonstration site are:

A clear sense of respect and caring among members of the school community; The presence of parents and community volunteers; The use of integrated thematic teaching units based on the Commonalities framework; Displays of the Commonalities and Core Virtues for teaching purposes; Use of the language of the Commonalities and Core Virtues; A focus on literacy and integration of the arts into everyday life; A climate for learning that respects the individual child and his or her needs; Appropriate and enriching resources for learning; and A commitment to character development that is an integral part of the life of the school, rather than an add-on program.
