The term vocation means different things to different people. This project incorporates a three-part definition of Christian vocation, from the more focused and classical definition to the broader and more general understanding of vocation, that serves as a point of orientation for our project. We anticipate that our definition will evolve and gain clarity throughout this project, but this three-part understanding has been applied to the various aspects of Christian Vocation.
  1. Love of God and Neighbor—To understand all of one’s life and activities as a form of stewardship and cooperation with God in the ongoing work of creation and redemption.
  2. Distinctive Calling to Ministry—To understand God’s calling to women and men to accept special roles of leadership and service within the church.
  3. Gifts and Guidance in Preparation for Life’s Work —To be self-aware of one’s personal gifts and talents and to have a relatively focused sense of how God wants these to be used for the benefit and improvement of the world near and far.
