Commencement Ceremony "Rain Plan" Tickets Q&A

 

 

In the event that the Commencement ceremony is moved indoors due to inclement weather, why do guests need tickets?

 

It is the College's strong preference to hold the Commencement ceremony outdoors if possible because tickets are not required and there is plenty of seating for all of our graduates' guests. However, in the event the Commencement ceremony is moved indoors, the seating in Brubaker Auditorium, where the ceremony is held, is much more limited. The College requires tickets for entry for the indoor ceremony so that all graduates are treated fairly and may have the opportunity to invite an equal number of guests.

 

 

How many tickets will graduates receive in the event that the Commencement ceremony is moved indoors?

 

Each graduate will be allotted four (4) tickets for guests to attend Commencement in Brubaker Auditorium, in the event that the ceremony is moved indoors due to inclement weather.

 

Graduates are also able to receive (on a first-come, first-served basis) two (2) additional tickets for guest seating in Lottie Nelson Dining Room, located on the second level of Eisenhower Campus Center, where the Commencement ceremony will be broadcast live via closed-circuit television.

 

 

Are the tickets for an indoor Commencement ceremony good for either the 11 a.m. or the 2 p.m. ceremony?

 

No. In the event that the Commencement ceremony is moved indoors due to inclement weather, the graduates are assigned to a specific ceremony time based on which academic school they are graduating from (see below). Graduates will only be allotted guest tickets for the indoor ceremony in which they are assigned.

Do graduates need to have a ticket to attend Commencement?

 

No, graduates do not need a ticket for the indoor Commencement ceremony, only their guests.

 

 

When and where may graduating seniors pick up their indoor ceremony "rain plan" tickets?

 

Graduating seniors may pick up their indoor ceremony "rain plan" tickets (in addition to their cap/gown and Baccalaureate tickets) beginning on Monday, May 13, at the Messiah College Ticket Office. See schedule of pick-up dates and times.

 

Graduating seniors must pick up their tickets in person. You will be asked to show your student I.D. to verify that you are a graduating senior, and you will be asked to sign for the tickets to confirm that you have received them.

 

If I'm a graduating senior at the Philadelphia Campus, studying at another off-campus location, or a December graduate, do I still need to pick up my rain plan tickets in person?

 

Yes, all graduating seniors must pick up their “rain plan” tickets in person (in the event that the Commencement ceremony is moved indoors due to inclement weather). However, if you are a senior who is studying in Philadelphia or another off-campus location, or were a December graduate, and are not able to come to the Grantham campus until Commencement weekend, your tickets will be held for you until you pick up your cap and gown. View pick up dates/times. Rain plan tickets are designated for either lower-level seating or balcony level in Brubaker Auditorium. If you call the Ticket Office at (717) 691-6036 after May 13, you may request which level seating you would like to have as availability permits.

 

How will master’s program graduates receive their rain plan tickets?

 

Prior to Commencement (in early April), the College will mail each master’s program graduate their allotted four rain plan tickets for Brubaker Auditorium.  Master’s program graduates who would like to request two additional overflow tickets for Lottie Nelson Dining Room, where the Commencement ceremony will be broadcast live via closed-circuit television, should contact Assistant Registrar Paula Maynard no later than May 1, 2013, at pmaynard@messiah.edu or (717) 796-1800, ext. 7347. Note: these tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Will there be a "will-call" location where guests can pick up "rain plan" tickets the morning of Commencement if the ceremony is moved indoors due to inclement weather?

 

It is extremely important to note that it is each graduate's responsibility to ensure that their guests receive their indoor ceremony tickets prior to the Commencement ceremony if it is moved indoors. Due to the numerous last-minute logistical changes that will be required if the Commencement ceremony is moved indoors due to inclement weather, the College will be unable to operate a "will call" window for distributing tickets to guests.

 

All graduating seniors are encouraged to pick up their tickets in advance of Commencement so that they may have plenty of time to distribute them ahead of time to their guests.

 

Those graduates who are unable to connect with their guests until the morning of Commencement are encouraged to pre-determine a plan for how they would meet in the event that the ceremony is moved indoors due to inclement weather.

 

 

If I am not planning to use all of the "rain plan" tickets I am allocated, may I give them to someone else to use?

 

If you are not using all of your "rain plan" tickets for Commencement, you are able to give them away if you choose. However, graduating seniors are still required to pick up the tickets in person at the various locations described above, to show student I.D., and sign for the tickets before giving them away. Staff are not authorized to give a graduate's tickets to someone else on their behalf, i.e., you will not be able to "leave a ticket" for someone to pick up.

 

It is very important to remember that the tickets that you will receive will only gain entry for the indoor ceremony time you are assigned (i.e., either the 11 a.m. or 2 p.m. ceremony).

 

 

What if I lose my tickets?

 

It is very important to note that all indoor ceremony "rain plan" tickets are non-replaceable, and cannot be re-issued if lost. Graduates and their guests are urged to keep their tickets in a safe place and be sure to bring them to the indoor ceremony. To ensure fair circumstances for everyone, all guests will be required to show a ticket for entry into the Commencement ceremony, both in Brubaker Auditorium or the overflow location in Lottie Nelson Dining Room.

 

 

Are "rain plan" tickets reserved seating or general admission?

 

All indoor ceremony "rain plan" tickets are general admission, for both Brubaker Auditorium and the overflow location in Lottie Nelson Dining Room.

 

 

Can anyone other than graduates get "rain plan" tickets?

 

No, indoor ceremony "rain plan" tickets will only be issued to graduates for use by their family and guests.

 

 

Can I put my name on a "waiting list" for additional "rain plan" tickets?

 

The Ticket Office will not be managing a "wait list" or a "will call" window for "rain plan" tickets. However, graduates and others who wish to secure additional tickets in advance in the event of an indoor ceremony do have other options as described above.

 

 

How will I know if the College is moving the ceremony indoors due to inclement weather?

 

A decision regarding any changes to the schedule will be made by 6:00 a.m. on Commencement day. Important announcements regarding the schedule and any changes will be posted on the College's telephone hotline at (717) 691-6084 and on the College's web site at www.messiah.edu.
