Facilities and Location
The Environmental Science major benefits from Messiah's exceptional surroundings. Messiah College is located in the rolling hills of south-central Pennsylvania, ten miles southwest of the capital city, Harrisburg. The 300+ acre campus contains extensive woodlands, fields, and wetlands that provide a natural laboratory for Environmental Science students. Deer, fox, beaver, mink, and more than 100 species of birds frequent the campus. The Yellow Breeches Creek that flows through the campus is a high quality trout stream and classified as a Pennsylvania Scenic River. Less than five miles from the campus, the Appalachian Trail enters the northern extension of the Blue Ridge Mountains. |

The hub of Messiah's Environmental Program is the four-story Kline-Jordan Science Center. The new Jordan Science Center is a $10 million dollar addition to Kline Hall. Completed in 1999, Jordan provides additional laboratory and faculty/student research space, as well as classrooms, and faculty offices. The two floor Oakes Museum of Natural History displays our departmental collections, including the magnificent Hinkley African mammal Collection, the Bierbower North American mammal collection, and the recently acquired Snyder bird egg and nest collection. The latter, at the time it was received 1997, was the largest private collection in North America. Key facilities at Messiah's Grantham Campus for Environmental Science students include: |
