My research interests focus on insect ecology and conservation biology. I am presently involved with a museum/field study of the grasshoppers of Pennsylvania in cooperation with Dr. Daniel Otte of the Academy of Natural Science of Philadelphia. I am also examining the effect of pollen of genetically engineered corn (BT corn) on the biological control agent Chrysoperla carnea. BT corn is toxic to pest Lepidoptera, but its impact on insects in other orders remains largely untested. Recently I have begun a long-term study of the insect community associated with endangered prairie relict ecosystems in western Washington.
