Faculty

Dr. Kenneth Armstrong is Professor of Management at Anderson University in Indiana where he has been since 1990. He was Dean of the School of Business at Anderson for many years and was instrumental in leading Anderson in developing both an MBA and DBA (doctorate in business). He has an MBA from Central Michigan University and a PhD. from Northwestern University (ranked recently as the #1 business school in the country). Dr. Armstrong has taught a variety of courses over the years including: Global Business, Competition and Strategy, Administrative Policy, Business and Society, and Management Innovators of the 20 th Century. He has published in numerous journals and has presented several papers at professional meetings to academic colleagues. Dr. Armstrong has also served as a consultant on strategic planning to academic institutions and private corporations. He has also traveled to Russia, China, and Mexico as part of academic initiatives. Dr. Armstrong has taught on IBI previously and will have primary responsibility in teaching the Global Business Strategy course in 2008.

 

BruceDr. Michael Bruce is Associate Professor of Marketing at Anderson University. Prior to Anderson, Dr. Bruce taught at two different universities in China and for eight years at Geneva College. He also has significant corporate experience on the marketing staff of Southwestern Bell Telephone. He has a Master’s in marketing from Maryville University and a PhD in marketing from Saint Louis University. He teaches a variety of marketing and statistics courses at Anderson University at both the undergraduate and graduate level, including International Marketing. He has a reputation for being an excellent teacher who makes statistics understandable (just about impossible to do!) and marketing enjoyable (much more possible!) He is also known for his thoughtful integration of faith and business. In addition to his corporate experience, Dr. Bruce has considerable consulting experience.  Dr. Bruce has taught on IBI previously and will be teaching Global Marketing in 2007.

 

greerDr. William Greer is Chair of Business and Associate Professor of Business and Economics at Milligan College in Tennessee. He has taught at Milligan College for more than ten years and has received several awards for his teaching and service to the college and community. He is even an alum of Milligan College! (Some of you on the IBI program should probably consider what Dr. Greer has done---go to graduate school and go back to your alma mater and teach international business!) His MBA is from East Tennessee State University and his PhD is in economics from the University of Tennessee. He has taught almost every economics course on the books including History of Economic Thought and Managerial Economics. Dr. Greer has served on the board and been President of the Board of Directors of the Johnson City Federal Credit Union and been a corporate officer and board member of Silver Creek Technologies, Inc. for several years. He has published a book titled, “Ethics and Uncertainty” and has presented several papers at professional meetings. Dr. Greer has taught on IBI previously and will be teaching Comparative Economics in 2007.

 

Paul KochDr. Paul Koch is Professor of Economics at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois, where he has taught since 1992. A graduate of George Fox College in Newberg, Oregon, he holds a master’s degree in economics and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction, both from Illinois State University, where he also taught for several years. While at ISU, he helped develop and teach workshops for public school teachers that were offered through the University’s Center for Economic Education. Professor Koch received Olivet’s Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence in 1996, and taught in the IBI program from 2001 through 2004. He has presented papers on various aspects of the relationship between Christianity and economics at conferences which were held at Baylor University (2002), Wheaton College (2004), and Point Loma Nazarene University (2005).  Dr. Koch has taught on IBI previously and will be teaching International Trade and Finance in 2008.

 

Dr. Vincent LaFrance is chairman of the Department of Management and Business at Messiah College. He graduated from the University of Delaware where he majored in economics and had a minor in business. After working in the business world for several years at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania until he joined the faculty of Messiah College in 1988. He has taught a variety of courses at Messiah, including a popular cross cultural course in Costa Rica. He has been involved in teaching comparative economic systems in the IBI program for a number of sessions and will do so again in 2008.

 

Dr. Ronald Webb is Managing Director of IBI and Professor of Management at Messiah College in Pennsylvania. Prior to assuming the directorship of IBI he was Vice President and Dean of the Faculty at Huntington College in Indiana and before that Chair of the Department of Management and Business at Messiah College for many years. His MBA and DBA are from the University of Maryland. Dr. Webb has taught numerous management courses over the years including International Management and Ministry in International Business. He has developed and participated in student programs in Europe, China, Latin and South America and has taught on the IBI program many years. He has consulted with many private corporations over the years as well as with universities in Russia and China. His publications, most recently on the “motivation to lead,” have appeared in numerous professional journals. Dr. Webb will lead the IBI program in 2008 and participate in teaching Global Business Strategy.

 

NoellDr. Edd Noell is Professor of Economics and Business at Westmont College in California where he has taught for almost twenty years. His MBA in finance is from the University of Texas and his PhD is in economics from Louisiana State University. He has taught numerous economics courses at Westmont and has received and Outstanding Teacher award for the Social Science Division at Westmont. Dr. Noell has participated in and led several business and liberal arts study programs in Europe, Asia, and Israel, including having taught on IBI several times. He has numerous publications in professional journals and is particularly interested in globalization, history of economic thought, labor market regulation, and the relationship between Christianity and economics. Dr. Noell serves as an editor for “Faith and Economics” and has served on the executive board of the Association of Christian Economists.

 

Robert Bartel is the founder of IBI and former Managing Director. Professor Bartel is a graduate of Wheaton College and his graduate work was at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, affiliated with Tufts and Harvard Universities, where he specialized in international economics and finance. He began his career in the Foreign Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and subsequently served on the faculties at Wheaton College, Westmont College, and King College in Bristol, Tennessee. He was a participant to the World Economic Forum meetings in Moscow (1991 and 1992) and the annual Forum sessions in Davos, Switzerland (1992-96). In the fall of 1993, he was named a Fellow of the World Economic Forum. In 2000, Professor Bartel was appointed to the Board of Trustees of First Advisors, LLP, a major division of First Trust Portfolios, one of the largest independent producers of unit trusts in the world which is based in Lisle, Illinois. In 2003, Professor Bartel was named Senior Advisor – Global Finance for First Trust Portfolios. He and his wife Shirley, live in “semi-retirement” at 831 Pinegrove Court Wheaton, IL 60187.
