The program also offers a major in Broadcasting and Journalism, requiring students to spend at least one semester at the Messiah College Philadelphia Campus to complete courses at Temple University.

In addition, as part of a cross disciplinary major in Digital Media, the Communication Department offers a concentration in Digital Video and Storytelling.  Students take a broad range of courses from the Communication, Visual Arts, Computer Science, and Theatre departments for a broad preparation for a career in digital media.

The offerings of the Communication Department will prepare you for a variety of fields, including:

  • Public Relations
  • Broadcasting
  • Marketing
  • Film Production
  • News Production
  • Non-profit Vocations
  • Internal and External Corporate Communication
  • Mass Media

All programs in the Communication Department integrate Christian faith and ethics as a basis of preparation for post-graduate work.

"How do I know if the communication major is for me?"

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Am I passionate about films
  • Do I enjoy working in a corporate environment, but would prefer working with and relating to people in contrast to working behind a desk?
  • Do I enjoy public speaking?
  • Do I consider myself to be a good writer?
  • Do I enjoy building relationships?

If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, communication could be the right major for you.

"What will I study?"

The field of communication encompasses various professional skills and, therefore, is diverse in nature. Depending on your concentration preference, you will encounter various topics, including:

  • Communication Theory
  • Crisis Management
  • Mass Media
