Communication Major - Public Relations Concentration
The public relations concentration builds on the communication core courses, which are grounded in gaining an understanding of mass media, and developing communication skills. Public relations courses focus on learning strategies to aid organizations in creating and fostering mutually beneficial relationships with their publics and the media. Students also learn how to incorporate ethics and Christian faith into their professional work. Courses such as Business and Organization Communication and Crisis Communication/ Media Relations provide practical applications of these goals. Select senior students also participate in The PR Campaign, a guided team independent study researching and creating a public relations campaign for an off-campus, non-profit client. Additional core requirements such as Communication Theory and Mass Media in America expose students to the multi-disciplinary side of communication which proves to be applicable in a variety of fields.
