Tips

How to succeed in Communication ... coming from the students themselves!!

  • It is never too early to start looking for a job or internship.  Even getting to shadow someone for a short period gives you practical experience.
  • Complete as many internships as you can!  Not only do internships give you a break from the classroom, they help you to make lasting connections for future employment opportunities.
  • Take a variety of classes -- you never know when you might find another area of study in communication you might enjoy!
  • Ask questions -- Professors love to know that you are interested and are more than willing to help you when possible.
  • A semester at Temple is a great opportunity to take classes that are not offered at Messiah.

What our students are saying

The Communication major is so versatile.  I don't feel confined or set to any specific job.  There are so many options you can pursue when you've completed the major, and the possibilities are virtually endless.  The greatest piece of advice I could give to a potential Communication student is to start applying for internships as early as possible.  The key to landing a job in this industry is all about experience and who you know.  Start networking right away!

I appreciate the Communications Department at Messiah, because the Communication classes I have taken have helped define the person I am and have prepared me for the professional world.

The Communication major is made up of amazing professors that not only teach everything about communication and give great preparation for the real world, but also invest in your lives and enjoy getting to know you individually.
