Employer : American Hospice

 

Position Description : One of my main duties is visits to patients, whether at home, nursing home, or hospital. My main duties are providing grief support to patients and their family. Other duties are helping with OOHDNR (Out of Hospital do not resuscitate), referrals to meals on wheels and assisting with funeral arrangements.

 

Salary Range : $35,000+ depending on education and experience

 

Courses Found Most Helpful : Sociology of Aging; Death, Grief, and Caring; Dynamics of Family Interaction.

 

How the HDFS Program Has Helped Prepare Her for Work : The family studies program allowed me to learn about the diversity of what "family" is and working with various populations.

 

How Faith Interfaces with Work : Working in Hospice has definitely made me think about my own mortality. People at the end stages of life tend to discuss faith issues.
