Home Economics Education Major

 

Additional Education: Sharon has accumulated 18 graduate credits and is currently working toward her Instructional II certificate from the Pennsylvania Dept. of Education

 

Job Title: Family and Consumer Science Teacher

 

Employer: Northeastern School District

 

Position Description: Sharon teaches the food and nutrition courses and the textile course offered at the high school. She is also serving as a Teacher Mentor.

 

Salary Range : $30,000 - $70,000

 

Previously Held Positions: Substitute Teacher; regular junior high classroom teacher in a private school

 

Courses Found Most Helpful: Food and Food Science; Textiles; and Education courses have been most helpful. Although she graduated more than 2 decades ago, she can still hear certain professors telling her how her teaching can be improved!

 

How HDFS Helped to Prepare Her: “The education I received from the HDFS department specifically and Messiah in general was very good. However, the experience I gained as a mother at home raising 3 children gave me much needed experience to reinforce my book knowledge.”
