Purpose: This is the home page of the Computer Science subgroup of the Association of Christians in the Mathematical Sciences. It's goal is to provide resources for relating Computer Science and Christian faith. It sponsors discussions of faith/discipline issues at conferences and on a listserv open to all.

• ACMS Conferences. The complete table of contents for all ACMS conferences.
• Men Are From The Server Side, Women Are From The Client Side: A Biblical Perspective On Men, Women, and Computer Science by Kim Kihlstrom
• "The Experience of the God of Chaos" by Douglas Norton and "Lines, Triangles, and the Trinity" by ACMS member Bob Styer have been posted to the Villanova University web site.
• "The Assuptions of Computing" by James K. Huggins, Ethics in the Computer Age, ACM Conference Proceedings, Gatlinburg, Tennessee, November 11-13, 1994, pp. 46--50.

  Abstract. The use of computers, like any technological activity, is not content-neutral. Users of computers constantly interact with assumptions regarding worthwhile activity which are embedded in any computing system. Directly questioning these assumptions in the context of computing allows us to develop an understanding of responsible computing.

• MIT 1999 God and Computer Science series, with Don Knuth. Seven presentations. A panel discussion with Mitch Kapor, Donald Knuth, Guy Steele, and Manuela Veloso and extensive on-line discussions are included.
• Joel Adams of Calvin College has some good resources on CS and Christianity. Note in particular his article A Christian Perspective on Computing.
• Ethics in Computer Science by J. Barry DeRoos.
• Parables for Mathematicians, Ashly Reiter's May 30, 2001, talk at the ACMS biennial meeting. This is strictly speaking a mathematics link, but I don't have very many CS links, so I haven't yet subdivided this section by category.
• Gene Chase's senior computer science seminar, Spring 2001, prompted his writing these two reports. Neither is a finished document!
  • Faith-Discipline Musings. Some ideas about what constitutes proper faith/discipline integration, about one's identity in cyberspace, and about how Christians should view computer artifacts as intellectual property.
  • Computer Science and Christianity: A Modeling Approach [This is not yet complete. The graphics haven't been inserted and the document has not been post-edited after being saved from WordPerfect.

A co-moderator approves the request as soon as possible. You do not need to be a member of ACMS to join cs-christianity. About 125 folks are currently subscribed to cs-christianity. The list volume has averaged about 20 per year since the list's January 2000 inception.

• The Computing Research Association is an institutional-membership organization that grew out of the "Snowbird" group of Ph.D.-granting departments in CS. It now allows undergrad-only departments. CRA is active in public policy (esp. gov't funding) and in education.
