IMS Department Events
In addition to guest speakers and special presentations each semester, the department hosts the following events each year:
Department Kick Off Picnic
The department picnic is held on the second Friday of the fall semester and is open to all students in the major, any visiting family, department faculty and their families, and department alumni living local. The picnic is held in the fellowship hall of the Grantham BIC Church. Volleyball, outdoor games, and board games are available with plenty of free food. Look for department announcements early in September.
Homecoming +/-2 Breakfast
Each year on Homecoming Saturday, department graduates who graduated in the current calendar year or the year prior are invited to a free brunch at Brothers Restaurant from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Department students in their 3rd and 4th years are also be invited. Email our administrative assistant, Jean McCauslin (JMcCausl@messiah.edu) in September if you are interested in attending.
Alumni Mathematics Teacher Dinner
Each fall, our MATH 407 class of current student teachers invites Messiah alumni who are middle or high school Mathematics teachers to join them for dinner in the Private Dining Room. They are very interested in hearing your advice for new teachers, how to find a good job, and how to be an effective and sane teacher of adolescents. If you are a secondary Mathematics teacher and would like to reserve a place, please email Dr. Hare (AHare@messiah.edu) by the end of October. The dinner will be held in the Private Dining Room from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. It is free, and the conversation friendly and helpful.
School of Science, Engineering and Health Symposium
The annual student symposium is held on the last Friday before final exams of each spring term, sponsored by the School of Science, Engineering, and Health. This event features student presentations on projects in the seven departments comprising the School. All are invited to attend as guests of the college for the day. For details, see
