I. Statistics
Benefits
A Statistics minor prepares one for entry level statistical positions in business, government, industry, and research.
A Statistics minor in conjunction with a Mathematics major is quite beneficial as preparation for a career in
actuarial science
.
A Statistics minor in conjunction with a Mathematics major prepares one to pursue study in a strong graduate program in statistics.
Requirements (18 credits)
Statistics for Mathematical Sciences I and II (STAT 291 and 292)
Twelve addditional credits of approved upper-level STAT courses usually consisting of the following:
Advanced Statistical Methods (STAT 324)
Experimental Design (STAT 325)
Statistical Methods in Operations Research (STAT 346)
Introductory Mathematical Statistics (STAT 407)
For Statistics minors who are not majoring in Mathematics, STAT 407 can be replaced with another approved upper-level STAT course (e.g. STAT 491).
II. Mathematics
Requirements (18 credits)
Calculus I and II (MATH 111 and 112)
Ten credits of 200 and 300 level MATH and/or STAT courses approved for the Mathematics major
III. Computer Science
Requirements (18 credits)
Eighteen credits of COSC courses, excluding COSC 171
