Academic Departments:

Performance

As a music major at Messiah College, you'll have lots of options for getting involved in performance.

And with ten large ensembles and a number of smaller groups to choose from, you're sure to find your musical niche.

Larger Ensembles:

• Concert Choir (45 members, performs mainly sacred choral music, presents two Christmas concerts and a spring tour)

• Vocal Jazz Ensemble (16 members, concentrates in jazz and popular music, performs both on and off campus)

• Messiah College Choral Arts Society (a College-community choir of about 150 voices, performs major choral works each spring)

• Women's Ensemble (60-member ladies' choir, meets during the fall and performs in two Christmas concerts)

• Symphonic Winds (large instrumental ensemble, performs a variety of music in three annual concerts)

• College Orchestra (chamber orchestra, performs once each semester)

• Handbell Choir (13-15 member group, performs in area churches and the Christmas concerts)

• Jazz Band (18-member "Big Band" ensemble, performs on campus)

• Brass Choir (15-member brass ensemble, performs on campus and in local churches)

• Percussion Ensemble (10-member ensemble, performs two annual concerts on campus and in local churches)

• Ringers Bell Choir

• Flute Choir

• Recorder Consort

• Brass Quintet

• String Quartet

• Guitar Ensemble (3 to 6 performances, performs on and off campus)

Department of Music ensembles have released several recordings in recent years. These include two recent recordings by the Concert Choir (To Thee We Sing and Look to This Day). Symphonic Winds has also released two nationally marketed CDs (Crosswinds and At the Strongholds)
