Sigma Theta Tau International
Nurses from more than 90 countries and territories worldwide include practicing nurses, faculty, researchers, policy makers, executives, entrepreneurs and others make up the society's 125,000 active members. These members are affiliated with 431 chapters on 515 college and university campuses in the U.S. and countries including Canada, Hong Kong, Pakistan, South Korea, Australia, Taiwan, The Netherlands, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, and Botzwana. Sixty-one percent of the STTI members hold advanced degrees.
All prospective members are solicited by invitation, screened by the Eligibility Committee, and finally approved by a vote of the membership. Membership is conferred upon undergraduate and graduate nursing students who have met or exceeded rigorous academic standards and upon college-educated nurse leaders who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in nursing.

- Completed 1/2 of curriculum
- Hold at least 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA
- Rank in upper 35% of class
- Completed 1/4 of curriculum
- Hold at least 3.5 out of 4.0 GPA
- Hold a baccalaureate degree in any field
- Be a registered nurse, recognized in practice
- Have demonstrated achievement in nursing
