Outstanding Senior Awards

 

Psychology students at Messiah College have the opportunity to receive one of two awards in their senior year.

 

The first award is the Outstanding Senior Award given on behalf of the Psychology Department at Messiah College. This award goes to a student who meets the following criteria:

 

  • Demonstrates outstanding academic achievement by actively participating in classes, consistently completing quality work, maintaining an excellent grade point average, and seeking research/learning opportunities outside the classroom.
  • Demonstrates an extraordinary life of service both to the college and the surrounding community by exhibiting compassion for and concern about those less fortunate, volunteering time and energy to assist in whatever capacity is needed, and responding selflessly by putting the needs of others before his/her own.
  • Demonstrates exceptional leadership grounded in a mature Christian faith, by being a positive role model and setting an example for others to follow, intuitively encouraging and motivating those around him/her, assuming the responsibility of leadership when the need is apparent, and striving to achieve his/her own goals and aspirations.

 

A second award available to psychology students at Messiah College is the Outstanding Senior Psychology Student Award presented on behalf of the Christian Association of Psychological Studies. The recipient of this award is also given a one-year membership to CAPS and a one-year subscription to its journal. This award is presented to a student who meets the following criteria:

  • Must demonstrate exceptional interest in and pursuit of excellence in academic studies.
  • Must demonstrate extension of self in service to others beyond the classroom
  • Must evidence Christian commitment and personal growth in their approach to professional interests and life in general
  • Must be going on to graduate school
