Messiah's program is nationally accredited. This means that it meets or exceeds the standards established by the profession to educate social workers.
- Students need to graduate from accredited social work programs to be licensed in each state to practice social work. Students who have graduated from Messiah with a B.S.W. can receive advanced standing in a masters in social work program. This means that they can receive their masters (MSW) in one year. It takes two years (full time) for Individuals who enroll in an MSW program who do not have a B.S.W.
Social Workers, either with a B.S.W. or an MSW are involved in a variety of fields:
- Graduate studies
- Child Protective Services
- Psychiatric Social Work
- Substance Abuse Counseling
- Faith-based Social Work
- Program Administration
- Foster Care and Adoptions
- Medical Social Work
- School Social Work
- Community Organizing
- Gerontology Social Work
Social Workers also have opportunities to work abroad. Many organizations offer 1-2 year programs overseas that help recent graduates gain valuable experience in social work related fields.
