Barbara Sims, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice in the Penn State Capital College’s School of Public Affairs. She received her Ph.D. from Sam Houston State University’s College of Criminal Justice in May, 1997. Her teaching and research interests are in the areas of criminological theory, juvenile law and justice, research methods, public opinion on crime and justice, domestic violence, and treating the substance-addicted offender. Dr. Sims has published in such criminal justice journals as

She has a book in press with Haworth Press on treating the substance-addicted offender, and she is working on a second book that deals with issues associated with domestic violence (under contract with the Civic Research Institute). A third book is Co-Edited with Dr. Pam Preston, and addresses juvenile law and justice issues (under contract with Marcel Dekker). Dr. Sims has served as Principal Investigator on several grants through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. Currently, along with Dr. James Ruiz, she is involved in an evaluation of police/probation partnership programs across three counties, and serves as a research consultant to the Project Safe Neighborhoods Task Force for the Federal Middle District of Pennsylvania. Dr. Sims was selected by the 2002 graduating class of Penn State Harrisburg to receive the James A. Jordan, Jr. Award for “Outstanding Dedication and Achievement in Education.” She also serves as Faculty Advisor to Penn State Harrisburg’s Criminal Justice Club (Phi Sigma Upsilon). Dr. Sims currently serves as the President of the Penn State Capital College Faculty Senate.
