Sociology Major
At Messiah College, you'll find plenty of ways to link what you're learning in the classroom with hands-on experience and enrichment opportunities. Most of our majors participate in off-campus internships and service opportunities in schools, foster care and adoption agencies, prisons, hospitals, retirement communities, children's homes, correction centers, and other social service agencies. We strongly encourage our majors to participate in the opportunities provided by the Agapé Center for Service and Learning. Practical experiences like these give Messiah students an up-close look at the world of work and an edge when it comes to the job hunt. A number of our students work side by side with professors to prepare and present papers and research findings at professional conferences. We also encourage our majors to spend at least one enrichment semester at the Philadelphia Campus or studying abroad. These opportunities enhance your educational experience. We sponsor two clubs, The Sociology Club and The Gathering, and an honor society, Alpha Kappa Delta. The Sociology Club (The Dead Sociologists' Society) provides students and faculty the opportunity to network and socialize among themselves and with professionals in the field. The Gathering is a place for Native American students and non-students, and others interested in Native American cultures, to learn from each other, provide support, and sponsor service and action.
