The Department of Visual Arts at Messiah College

Prospective Students

Admission to the Department:

Admission to the department does not require a portfolio unless you are applying for an arts scholarship (see Vollmer Scholarship link).

We believe that our students come from a variety of backgrounds with differing educational levels and experiences in the visual arts. This is not always an indicator of whether these students will succeed in the department. During the second semester of the sophomore year studio and art education majors must participate in sophomore review. During this time that students must present a portfolio to the faculty for review in order to continue in the programs. (link to Sophomore review)

Prospective students and family members are welcome to tour our department, sit in on classes, and make to an appointment speak with any of our professors. Please consider setting this up through the admissions office.

Accepted Students Day: March 2 2011 is a special day for students who are accepted into the program. Parents and students are invited to:

  • hear more specifics about the curriculum,
  • meet with faculty,
  • attend hands-on workshops
  • attend workshops for parents of arts majors
