Job Description
Housing and Development Outreach Teams Coordinator
  1. Build and maintain relationships with agencies in the community that work with housing and development issues:
    1. Habitat for Humanity – Harrisburg: 
      1. Give leadership to the Messiah College campus chapter, maintaining a balance between the three goals of Habitat for Humanity campus chapters: education, building, raising funds.
      2. Build and maintain relationships with the volunteer coordinator and the construction manager of the Harrisburg affiliate.
      3. Call and chair Habitat for Humanity Chapter meetings for the purposes of recruitment, dissemination of information, raising awareness, training, and planning of events.
    2. Habitat for Humanity International
      1. Serve as the liaison to the regional director.
      2. Coordinate fund-raising efforts to support the work of the Harrisburg affiliate and Habitat for Humanity International.
    3. Service Trips
      1. Work cooperatively with Service Trips to choose appropriate sites for groups to work with Habitat affiliates, and with the planning of such trips.
    4. Collaborate with the Hunger & Homelessness Coordinator of Outreach Teams
      1. Hunger & Homelessness Week
      2. Annual Sleep Out
  2. Recruit volunteers for the agencies with which relationships are being built.
    1. Team leaders who can provide on site leadership for regular volunteers as well as serve as a campus licensed driver.
    2. Regular volunteers
    3. Potential Outreach Coordinators for future years
  3. Train and educate volunteers for service.
    1. Arrange for an orientation for each team during the first visit
    2. Plan reflection opportunities on site or on campus for further volunteer engagement in learning
    3. Sponsor lectures, films, alternate chapels or other educational programming to raise up-to-date awareness of issues related to your service.
  4. Assist all teams with any needs:
    1. Budgeting
    2. Purchasing supplies
    3. Tracking attendance
    4. Transportation arrangements
    5. Work trip details
  5. Work with Messiah College professors, when appropriate, to integrate projects or assignments related to your programming into their courses.
  6. Work with Resident Assistants, Life Groups leaders, and other student leaders to plan service projects related to your programming.
  7. Keep updated attendance records and budget records for your teams.
  8. Participate fully as a member of Outreach Teams.
