Upperclass students have the opportunity to live in Harrisburg through a unique housing option provided by Messiah College. Students living in the Harrisburg Institute commit to performing 2 hours or one site visit a week through the Agape Center for Service and Learning.  In addition to serving through Messiah's Outreach Teams, the service requirement can also be fulfilled through an internship, teaching practicum, or research project.

One aspect of the Harrisburg Institute. is a unique housing option that explores community needs in Harrisburg together. 25 students live downtown in a recently renovated abandoned building and are encouraged to practice community life, engage in the city of Harrisburg and examine their role in light of service within it. Students find themselves having community meals, weekly pot lucks, book studies, and voluntarily service. This is a perfect opportunity for students who are doing research with a professor, student teaching, interning, or are on an Outreach Team to live, learn, worship, serve and play in Harrisburg.
