Email: SustainableAgriculture@messiah.edu
Mission Statement: In response to God's call to love one another, to provide food, clothing, nutritional education and other links to programs to empower people in need within the greater Carlisle area.
Brief Description of Organization: Project SHARE is an interfaith, non-profit cooperative effort created to meet the needs of the hungry by providing supplementary food on a monthly basis. S.H.A.R.E. distributes food boxes in the third week of each month containing 45 nutritious food items, approximately one week’s groceries for a family of four.
Demographics of Population Being Served: Project SHARE serves between 900 and 1,100 families each month. Of this amount approximately 35% are seniors and 30% are children. All recipients have demonstrated that they have an income 150% or more below the poverty level.
Expectations for Student Volunteers: On SHARE’ s monthly food distribution days, volunteers will serve people who rely on this ministry for food, clothing and other essentials. On other days, their tasks could include restocking shelves, putting together nutritional food distribution boxes, helping with the general upkeep of the facility or even teaching people how to prepare a new recipe using the food they receive.
